Why is Elon Musk apologizing to Twitter users?

Elon Musk, the founder, CEO and chief engineer of SpaceX; CEO of Tesla, Inc.; owner of Twitter.; founder of the Boring Company; and co-founder of Neuralink and OpenAI, has apologized to Twitter users.

On Sunday, Musk took to Twitter to apologize to users who complained of the app taking up extra space on their phones. He shared a screenshot of the mobile screen to highlight that Twitter takes 9.52GB of space. Sharing the image, he wrote on Twitter, “Sorry this app takes up so much space.” Musk also highlighted that WhatsApp and Discord took 1.31GB and 2.01GB of space, respectively. The post received 75 million views. A Twitter user commented, "Yeah, good joke. A bunch of people are losing their accounts and all the fo­­­llowers that they earned, but a good joke."

Elon Musk has been making headlines in recent months. Recently, Musk’s startup Neuralink received approval from the United States (US) regulators to test its brain implants in people under a first-in-human clinical study.

Earlier this month, Elon Musk stepped down from his role as the CEO of Twitter. He named Linda Yaccarino as the new Twitter CEO. Musk said that he would continue to act as the CTO of Twitter.

Last month, Musk said that the micro-blogging platform would allow users to charge money for access to their content of the long-form text and hours-long video.

This feature is available on the "Monetization" tab in the settings bar of Twitter. Musk said, “Apply to offer your followers subscriptions of any material, from long-form text to hours-long video! Just tap on “Monetization” in settings.”

After purchasing the social networking site in October 2022, the tech billionaire rolled out a Twitter-verified blue tick as a paid service to make money out of the platform.

Russian central bank hikes rates amid the Ukrainian crisis

  Russia's central bank on Monday raised its key policy rate to 20 per cent from 9.5 per cent amid the Ukrainian crisis. The western countries imposed harsh sanctions against the country, which affected the Russian economy. The central bank also ordered companies to sell 80 per cent of their foreign currency revenues to manage the fallout of harsh economic sanctions. The West pummelled the country with economic sanctions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine . Reportedly, the central bank said in a statement that external conditions for the Russian economy have drastically changed after Russia invaded Ukraine. The bank further said that the rate hike from 9.5 per cent to 20 per cent will ensure a rise in deposit rates to levels needed to compensate for the increased depreciation and higher inflation.
