Abu Dhabi, the Capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has launched an eco award to promote the importance of sustainability and green drive. The eco award would focus on efforts to safeguard the planet.

The Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Environment Award has been established by the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi. It is named after the chairman of the agency's board of directors. The award aims to raise awareness about the importance of green drives and a green environment.

The first edition of the eco award will be made up of three main award categories to honour the excellence in environmental work. It is headlined by the Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Environmental Medal.

The award aims to honour those who have achieved excellence in supporting the green agenda. The award aims to appreciate the eco-conscious approach of people like fishermen, falconers and farmers, as well as private companies and industrial facilities who supports the green drive.

The names of the winners will be announced at a ceremony during Cop 28, the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference, which is set to take place at Expo City Dubai in the UAE from November 30 to December 12.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafrah Region, said, “The UAE’s keenness to protect the environment represents an original trend stemming from its belief in the importance of the environment in achieving sustainable development.”

Reportedly, Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) will hold awareness workshops about the eco awards to facilitate the efforts of individuals in achieving the green drive.

Dr Sultan Al Jaber is the President-Designate of COP 28 and Managing Director and Group CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), the State-owned oil company of the United Arab Emirates. It is one of the largest oil companies by production.
