Expo City Dubai, an exhibition and trade centre in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is offering visitors free entry to all of its flagship pavilions on May 19 to start the celebrations of the International Museum Day.

The International Museum Day celebration will take place in Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain. The educational programmes will be featured at Expo City Dubai as part of the celebration under this year's theme of “Museums, Sustainability, and Well-being.”

Visitors can get free entry to the Alif — the Mobility Pavilion, Terra — the Sustainability Pavilion, The Women's and Vision Pavilions, and the three Stories of Nations Pavilions at Expo City Dubai.

Terra — the Sustainability Pavilion will showcase climate-focused films ahead of COP28. Alif — the Mobility Pavilion will feature a Lego workshop, wherein visitors can learn about motors, sensors, and engineering principles. The Women's and Vision Pavilions will offer craft activities for women of all ages.

International Museum Day is celebrated across the world annually on or around 18 May. It is coordinated by the International Council of Museums, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to museums.

The global organisation of museums established the International Museum Day in 1977. It offers a specific theme each year. The themes usually reflect issues faced by the museums internationally.

In 2020, the International Council of Museums shifted its focus to the Sustainable Development Goals. It is focused to highlight the role of museums in shaping sustainable futures.

Expo City Dubai will host the 28th United Nations Climate Change conference, also known as the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28), from November 30 to December 12, 2023.

The event is focused to address various problems related to climate change. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber is set to serve as COP President. The UAE has already started preparation for COP28.
