UAE private sector working hours reduced for Ramadan 2023

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the official working hours for private sector employees during the holy month of Ramadan.

The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation said that the number of working hours would be reduced by two during Ramadan 2023. The working hours have been reduced from eight hours a day to six hours a day.

If a worker works beyond six hours a day, it may be considered overtime. Employees need to pay their employees an extra amount if they work additional hours.

In the UAE, workers in the private sector work for an average of 48 hours a week. However, they would work for an average of 36 hours a week during the holy month of Ramadan.

The ministry issued a circular in this regard. The MoHRE said, “In accordance with the requirements and nature of their work, companies may apply flexible or remote work patterns within the limits of the daily working hours during the days of Ramadan.”

Recently, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) issued a circular to set official working hours for ministries and federal authorities during the holy month of Ramadan.

The FAHR said that working hours during Ramadan would start from 9 am to 2.30 pm from Monday to Thursday and from 9 am until 12 pm on Fridays.

According to the WAM news agency, the employees of federal authorities are also allowed to implement flexible working or remote work schedules during the holy month.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar observed by Muslims across the world. Muslims fast from dawn to sunset and recite the Quran during the holy month. During the holy month of Ramadan, the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed.
