Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the vice president, prime minister, and minister of defence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as well as the ruler of Dubai, is set to speak to Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi on Tuesday through a live video link-up on Nasa TV.

The UAE astronaut arrived at the International Space Station, the largest modular space station in low Earth orbit, on Friday.

The UAE astronaut is on a six-month mission in the orbiting science laboratory. He is scheduled to participate in 200 experiments assigned by NASA and 19 others involving UAE universities.

Dr Al Neyadi will talk about his journey in space in his videos. His videos will be broadcast each week to hundreds of schools in the UAE. Dr Al Neyadi thanked the UAE for achieving this milestone. He reportedly said, “I would like to thank my mom and dad and the leadership of the UAE.”

The UAE astronaut further thanked the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre. Reportedly, streams and pre-recorded videos of Dr Al Neyadi are part of a new educational project by the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre.

Dr Al Neyadi is the second Emirati to travel into space after Emirati astronaut Maj Hazza Al Mansouri's eight-day stay on the International Space Station in 2019. Sultan Al Neyadi is the first Arab astronaut to spend six months on the International Space Station.

The talk between Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and Dr Al Neyadi will take place at 4.50 pm UAE time, according to Nasa's website. The live video will be helpful for UAE students.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, also congratulated Dr Al Neyadi on Friday on his six-month journey to the ISS. He wrote on Twitter, “All the Emirates and Arabs stand with you.” He appreciated Dr Neyadi’s mission from inside the International Space Station.
