Thousands donate at Dubai and Abu Dhabi collection points

Abu Dhabi

I admire  the Spirit of Humanity in UAE

Collection points in Dubai and Abu Dhabi were filling up on Wednesday with vital supplies such as food and warm clothes.

Volunteers are working around the clock to pack the goods and prepare them for immediate shipment to Turkey.

Two powerful earthquakes that hit the country were followed by dozens of aftershocks. At least 11,000 people died and the death toll is expected to rise further amid harsh winter conditions.

“There is strong solidarity in our community,” said Mr Kilic, who was overseeing the operation in Dubai. “People feel helpless as they are not able to help the efforts there so at least this is an outlet to express that emotion. It is very heartwarming.”

It was a similar situation at the Turkish Embassy drop-off point in Abu Dhabi. And not just people from Turkey but Palestine, Germany and many others were determined to show their solidarity with those who need it the most.

"After watching the scale of death and destruction in Turkey and Syria, I feel all of us who can afford have an obligation to help,” said Handell Terrado, who is from the Philippines and was dropping off supplies. “The Philippines has endured tsunamis and earthquakes. We know what it is like. We have always donated whenever there is a disaster in any part of the world. We are all humans first."
