Sharjah's Innovative Wheat Project Prepares for First Harvest: Farmers and Engineers Transform Desert into Green Oasis

Farmers and engineers in Sharjah are preparing for an exciting milestone: the first harvest of an innovative wheat project. Spanning a vast 400-hectare complex in Mleiha, the project is about the size of 500 football pitches and is being managed by the department of agriculture and livestock in Sharjah.

After four months of hard work and dedication, the desert land at the base of rocky mountains has been transformed into a green oasis, thanks to machine operators who drove across the fields disseminating seeds. Now, harvesting machines are set to arrive at the farm in March to collect the matured crops

 The project's first phase was opened in November by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, and it has been a resounding success thus far. The farm is expected to yield up to 1,700 tonnes of wheat, and the project showcases the ingenuity and dedication of Sharjah's agricultural sector.

Not only is this project a remarkable achievement in and of itself, but it is also a testament to the power of innovation and cooperation between farmers and engineers. Together, they have brought a previously barren landscape to life and transformed it into a flourishing agricultural hub. This success also highlights the important role of agriculture in the UAE's economic diversification efforts, particularly in light of the challenges posed by climate change and food security.

  Ahmed can play pieces by Beethoven, Mozart and Bach, and composes his own music. His mother, Eiman Al Aleel that in 2012 doctors said Ahmed, who was then a year and eight months old, had autism. “We took him to many  after he stopped talking or making eye contact,” said Ms Aleeli.  “I am blessed with a loving husband.
