How to register for the Haj in the UAE and how much it costs

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities have announced that residents can perform Haj this year by registering on the digital platform of the UAE’s General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (Awqaf) from February 13 to March 10.

The pilgrims must click on the ‘Haj registration’ tab to register themselves for Haj. They have to enter their Emirates ID and mobile phone numbers. The Haj operators have urged the people to register within this month as the quota is limited.

Reportedly, the Haj operators have to distribute seats within the limited number of available quotas given to them from each country of ex-pats.

The UAE residents will be required to obtain a Haj visa issued by the Saudi Arabian government in order to perform Haj this year. To obtain a Haj Visa, the UAE resident should carry a valid passport, a recent photo, proof of vaccination against meningococcal disease, and proof of funds to cover living expenses in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Reportedly, Saudi Arabia will not impose restrictions on the number of pilgrims for this year's Haj. For three years, as Covid-19 raged around the world, the Saudi Arabian government, custodian of the holy sites in Mecca, halted the Haj. Last year, people fully vaccinated or immunised against Covid-19 were allowed to perform Haj. Haj is also important for business owners in Saudi Arabia’s Mecca because they generate more income during the Haj season.
How much it costs

The total pilgrimage package depends on nationalities and port of departure. The government in the UAE issues Haj permits only for Emiratis. Expatriates need to go through the quota and follow the procedures of their home countries to perform Haj.
Pilgrims can select all-inclusive Haj packages offered by licensed tour operators, which cover visa costs, hotels, transport and food. Haj is a once-in-a-lifetime duty for every able-bodied Muslim.
