The president of UAE
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan congratulated Liz Truss for
being elected as the new Prime Minister of the UK.
He congratulated her
in a tweet which stated: “Congratulations to Liz Truss on her appointment as UK
Prime Minister. I wish her every success and look forward to working jointly to
further strengthen the longstanding ties between our two countries and to
support peace and prosperity both in our region and around the world.”
Liz Truss was chosen
by Queen Elizabeth II to serve as the next prime minister of the United Kingdom
on Tuesday, soon after Boris Johnson met with the monarch to formally accept
his resignation.
The handover of
authority will occur at Balmoral, not London's Buckingham Palace, for the first
time in Queen Elizabeth's seventy-year reign. The relocation of the ceremony
led to the proliferation of rumors about the 96-year-old Queen's health.
The following day, the
172,000 members of the British Conservative Party elected Liz Truss as their
leader after a close race against former chancellor Rishi Sunak, who is of
Indian heritage.
