The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the best place in the Middle East and Africa region for food security, according to a new report by data and analytics company GlobalData.

According to the report, the UAE has the ability to navigate supply chain disruptions. The UAE also has the lowest risk among 56 countries in the Middle East and Africa region in terms of supply chain disruption, rising inflation, food insecurity and rising debt.

The GlobalData Country Risk Index (GCRI) noted that UAE ranks first in countries in the Middle East and Africa region because the country has the lowest risk in terms of food security. The UAE is also ranked tenth in the GlobalData Country Risk Index (GCRI). The company gave ranking to countries after analysing macroeconomics, political, social, technological, environmental and legal data of various countries.

Bindi Patel, an economic research analyst at GlobalData, reportedly said, "Many countries in the MEA region are heavily dependent on food imports and disruptions to food supply chains due to various factors.”

According to The National, the UAE has started using technology to boost the AgriTech sector. The UAE also launched various initiatives to tackle the global food crisis.

The UAE established the “Emirates Food Security Council” to lead the National Food Security Strategy implementation in order to achieve zero hunger. The Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, headed the Emirates Food Security Council in order to improve food security in the country.

The UAE also topped the Arab countries in the Food Security Index in the second quarter of 2022 with a score of 7.07 points. The UAE was also not affected severely when inflation was recorded as the highest due to the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022.
