Human rights group claims 83 killed in Mahsa Amini protests

Image
Mahsa Amini, 22, from the Iranian -Kurdish town of Saqez, was arrested this month in Tehran due to her “unsuitable attire” by the morality police, which enforces the country's strict dress code for women. Her death has sparked the first big show of opposition on Iran's streets since authorities crushed protests against a rise in petrol prices in 2019.  “At least 83 people including children are confirmed to have been killed in [the] #IranProtests,” Iran Human Rights , a Norway-based group, said on Twitter. Despite the growing death toll and a fierce crackdown by authorities, videos posted on Twitter showed demonstrators calling for the fall of the clerical establishment in Tehran, Qom, Rasht, Sanandaj, Masjed-i-Suleiman and other cities.

Young Arabs see democracy

The survey found that 64 per cent of young Arabs thought democracy would be incompatible with the region. Those in the Levant were most likely to share this view, with 72 per cent agreeing while 62 per cent in North Africa agreed. Gamal Ahmed, 22, a high school graduate who works as a restaurant server in Giza, said democracy was the last thing on the minds of most young Egyptians struggling to make a living. “I think the reality is most of us, especially poor people, have much more pressing issues, such as ensuring we have enough money to feed our families, especially this year with how expensive things are getting,” he said.

Is a new government near in Lebanon

Image
At a recent meeting with EU ambassadors, Mr Aoun again affirmed his commitment to forming a government that would assume presidential powers in the event of a vacancy. As reported by Lebanese state media, Mr Aoun blamed the delays in the government formation on the challenges presented by Lebanon’s sectarian power-sharing system.  The present government went into caretaker status four months ago following the May 15 parliamentary elections. Mr Mikati was once again designated as prime minister to   form a new government , but has until now failed to reach an agreement with the president over its make-up . Despite on-and-off speculation over the past four months that a new government is on the verge of formation, recent meetings before the two have appeared tense. The prospect of a government before the end of President Aoun’s tenure seems unlikely, despite assurances from both leaders.

Developer Kuba Wojciechowski posted code screencaps on Twitter that show a device called "Felix" in its unfolded and folded modes.   The use of the device's cameras was also addressed. On the rear of the phone, these include a 10.8MP Samsung S5K3J1 telephoto lens and a 64-megapixel (MP) Sony IMX787 primary sensor.   Additionally, the gadget might have an 8MP Sony IMX355 sensor inside and an additional Samsung S5K3J1 on the front. India puts ban on rice export with immediate effect

Image
India has immediately outlawed the export of damaged rice. The word "free" has been changed to "prohibited" in the export policy.   However, some exports will be permitted up until September 15 in cases where loading of broken rice onto ships had already begun prior to the ban order, where the shipping bill had been filed, where the vessels had already berthed or arrived and anchored in Indian ports, and where the broken rice consignment had been handed over to the customs and was registered in their system .   The export ban becomes significant because it seems possible that less paddy will be planted overall this Kharif season than last. Future crop prospects as well as price trends may be impacted by this.   To increase domestic supplies, the Center on Thursday increased the export tariff on non-Basmati rice by 20%, with the exception of parboiled rice. The export fee will be in effect starting on September 9.   An export tariff of 20% has been levied

The 23-year-old Indian pacer is under fire for missing a crucial catch during Pakistan's 18th over against India in the Super Four phase match as the latter team was attempting to score 182 runs.   Asif Ali, whom Singh had dismissed, made the most of the opportunity presented to him by hitting Pakistani pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 19 runs in the subsequent over. The final over was assigned to Arshdeep Singh, who failed to stop seven runs.   After missing the critical catch, Arshdeep was the subject of cruel online trolls. On Singh's Wikipedia article, " India " was changed to "Khalistan" by an anonymous user, however these modifications were quickly reversed by another editor. Apparently, a few handles from
