Nearly 300 people return back home after Dubai orders airlines to pay for stranded tourists.
According to a circular issued this month, the airlines have been asked by the Dubai airport to repatriate passengers who would come or visit the United Arab Emirates without a return ticket.
The decision was taken after it was found that on Wednesday and Thursday, many passengers from the South Asian countries got stranded in the Dubai airport after they were unable to fulfill the entry requirements.
As it was reported by the Khaleez times, the circular said, “Passengers with visit and tourist visas arriving (in) Dubai without a return ticket will be not be permitted entry, and it is the sole responsibility of the airline to arrange and cover the cost of a ticket/ flight to return their passenger to the country of origin."
It was reported that the majority of the passengers among the south asian nations were from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Afghanistan. Yesterday a report claimed that according to the diplomatic institutions of India and Pakistan, as many as 300 passengers were made to return to their countries because they did not carry return tickets. .
The Consul for Press for India, Neeraj Agrawal, said that among the stranded, nearly 200 were Indian of which 140-150 people have returned back to their home countries while others have cleared their immigartion for the UAE. “ Most of the passengers arrived on Air Vistara and GoAir airlines and a few were on flydubai and Emirates Airline."
The Consul General of Pakistan, Ahmed Amjad Ali, also affirmed that 169 Pakistani nationals have been repatriated since yesterday. He asserted that arrangements are being made for people to go back on the availability of seats and the authorities are cooperating according to it.
