UAE endeavours towards curbing climate change practices receive global appreciation

When it comes to taking steps with the future in mind, the United Arab Emirates is second to none and this can very well be seen in the kinds of initiative the nation has taken towards ensuring minimisation and finding alternatives for activities that are contributing to climate change.

It becomes even more important to acknowledge these little but futuristic changes the UAE has been making because tomorrow the world is celebrating World Humanitarian Day, where nationals will come together to acknowledge the efforts made to slow down the climate change process.

Most of these campaigns are focused towards slowing down the climate change process and tomorrow, various members of the community will be present to discuss the immediate consequences of the climate emergency.

The whole world will be affected by these changes but this is worse for certain sections of the society that are most vulnerable to getting affected by these sudden changes. To discuss their future and how the world is preparing for it, the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) will be the platform to address this in November this year.

For the UAE, the National Climate Change Plan of the nation stretches from 2017-2050 where they will be taking actions to make arrangements for climate mitigation. The nation has come up with climate change measures and brought them into national policies and now it is looking to expand its wings further into curbing global warming practices.

As per the new changes, the UAE has come up with 14 projects that are in line of implementation and through this, the top UAE leadership is targeting to reduce the emissions of Greenhouse gases. This project will be carried out under the umbrella of Clean Development Mechanism projects.

With all these initiatives, the UAE is also looking at opportunities that would help it expand its role  of low carbon technologies in the economy while also investing more renewable energy. In line with all the steps that the nation is taking, the UAE may get an opportunity to host COP28 in 2023.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said, “The climate challenge is daunting, but it is also matched by enormous opportunity to drive economic growth and job creation.”

The leader also said that the 2023 platform for climate change movement will work towards further ensuring accelerated action as far as the Arab nation is concerned. Earlier, His Highness Sheikh Mohammedbin Rashid Al Maktoum launched a new production phase in a solar park that will be providing clean energy to power as many as 90,000 homes.

After the launch, the ruler of Dubai also said that the goal of the nation at present is to produce 5,000 megawatts of clean energy before 2030. The United States counterpart for the UAE’s envoy for climate change Dr Sultan Al Jaber, John Kerry also visited the nation to look at the projects that the country is working on and how they will be dealing with this project further.

Kerry highlighted that there is a huge problem to deal with. "It’s remarkable to find the UAE trying to lead many other nations in the search of new technology to address the global climate challenge and in transitioning to the new economy while facing this crisis,” he said.

The leader not only visited the solar park but also visited the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. This artificial intelligence unit is completely devoted to focusing on sustainability solutions through various innovations in the regions as far as dealing with climate change is concerned.
