Govt disburses allowances to 47,300 low-income families
47,300 low-income Emirati households have received inflation allowances from the UAE government to assist them pay for rising food, gasoline, power, and water expenses.
As part of its most recent
developments, the Ministry of Community Development made an announcement on
Sunday regarding the payment of inflation allowances to Emirati families as
part of the new government social support program.
Inflation allowances are a kind of
government assistance given to Emirati families with low incomes in order to help
them cope with the global increase in the cost of gasoline, staple foods,
electricity, and water.
The program offers three different
sorts of benefits: food, water, electricity, and fuel subsidies.
The social support program for
low-income residents was restructured early last month at the direction of UAE
President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who also doubled
the program's funding from Dh14 billion to Dh28 billion.
The fund included additional
allocations for housing, college costs, and those over 45 who are unemployed.
Additionally, the program included subsidies for food, water, energy, and
gasoline.
According to the authorities, the
leadership's desire to give residents with limited means an acceptable standard
of living throughout the nation led to the allotment of these allowances.
The ministry has noted that it began
certifying the distribution of the fuel allowance for qualified low-income
individuals in the middle of July. Starting on August 5, it started disbursing
the food subsidy allowance, which would be followed by the electricity and
water allowance.
According to the statement from the
government, "These monies will help low-income families throughout the UAE
who are eligible to inflation allowances."
The program offers a monthly subsidy
equal to 85% of the rise in gasoline prices over Dh2.1 per litre. The working
lady also receives a monthly subsidy of 200 liters in addition to the 300
liters given to the household head.
In the meanwhile, if the woman isn't
supported, the family's head receives a 400-liter stipend. The amount of the
bonus due can be spent during the month if the family displays the Emirates ID
at any Adnoc fuel station in the UAE.
As part of this effort, the
government agrees to cover 75% of the increase in food prices as part of a
commitment to give Emirati families the support they need to satisfy their
basic needs and live decently.
According to the ministry, all
recipients of inflation-adjusted benefits registered for the fuel allowance are
also registered for the food allowance automatically.
Text messages are sent to these
recipients to confirm their registration, and an account is set up for them
that is connected to their Emirates IDs. By visiting one of the approximately
100 Lulu Hypermarket locations in the UAE and showing their Emirates IDs upon
being paid, the families may take advantage of the value of the allowance that
is due throughout the month.
The social welfare program offers a
50% monthly electricity subsidy for use of fewer than 4,000 kilowatts of power
and a 50% monthly water subsidy for use of less than 26,000 litres of water.
According to the government,
recipients of the inflationary allowances would immediately be enrolled to
receive a monthly subsidy for the use of energy and water for the next term.
The ministry added that the smart
application, the ministry's website (www.mocd.gov.ae), and the Emirates ID are
all accessible for use in order to register for social assistance applications
and questions linked to support.
