UAE travellers to wait 3 months to get a visa to Europe
Even
obtaining a Schengen visa might currently take up to three months, prompting
travellers from the UAE to choose alternative locations. Europe's searing heat
wave isn't the only issue deterring tourism from the UAE.
The
summer and holiday seasons used to have distinct peaks and troughs in terms of
travel, but nowadays, according to Monaz Billimoria, Deputy Regional Head-UAE
& Qatar, VFS Global, the visa processing consultant, "people are eager
to travel almost throughout the year." There may be some nations with such
high demand that you might schedule a visa appointment as late as September.
Yes,
depending on the nation, obtaining a Schengen visa in the UAE can take anywhere
between three weeks and three months.
Advance bookings
By
making reservations far in advance, travellers can avoid last-minute delays.
"While you're in high season, it's usually preferable to plan appointments
well in advance," said Billimoria. "Schengen countries let you make
an application up to six months in advance."

The UK situation adds to
delays.
New
visa applications are also taking longer to process in the UK, a significant
market for UAE airlines. Travelers from the UAE who had been discouraged by
Schengen visa delays previously considered excursions to the UK to be the best
choice. "The UK usually takes 15 days to process an application, but it
now takes close to six weeks," claimed Billimoria. We are in continual
communication with UK authorities about going back to the original three-week
deadline.
Not
all problems that travellers encounter when travelling to the UK are related to
visa appointments. Flight cancellations are occurring at some of the largest
airports in the nation, which has caused London Heathrow, one of the busiest
airports in the world, to set flight capacity limits.
Full flights
The
limitations on ticket sales have resulted in fully booked flights from London to
Dubai. The majority of flight options include several stops in places like Tel
Aviv and Amman.
Emirates
eventually complied after first refusing Heathrow's request for airlines to
make sudden capacity reductions. According to a statement from the airline,
"Emirates has blocked future purchases on its flights out of Heathrow
until mid-August to support Heathrow with its resource ramp up, and is working
to modify capacity."
Currently,
flights between Dubai and London cost between Dh2,000 and Dh2,500, but the
return trip will cost more than Dh3,000.
Asia demand
Many
UAE citizens are interested in travelling to Singapore in Asia, according to
the VFS CEO. "I observe a lot of Filipino expats travelling back home as
we renew their passports."
"China's
opening will bring about a significant change that will fundamentally alter the
Asian market." However, practically all of the travel coming out of the
UAE at the moment is going west to places like Europe, Turkey, Canada, and the
UK.
