Amber Heard Challenges Court’s Verdict In Defamation Suit Against Johnny Depp

Amber Heard - Johnny Depp - Defamation suit

In the latest development in Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s case, Heard has challenged the court’s final verdict in the defamation suit against Depp.

Heard`s legal team submitted a motion on Friday demanding that the final decision in Depp`s defamation trial be overturned, including the $10.35 million in damages given to Depp by the jury. Heard’s legal team asked for a fresh trial. Heard also alleged that there is no evidence to support Depp’s claims.

Heard's attorneys request that the Fairfax County Circuit Court investigate the improper juror service. Heard lawyers’ also said that Depp’s team ‘proceeded solely on defamation by implication theory’.

Heard’s lawyer claimed that she was unaware of the headline of her 2018 article unless a defamation suit was filed by Depp. The lawyer further said, “Depp presented no evidence that Heard did not believe she was abused.”

The lawyer also argued that the jury's $10.35 million judgement on Heard is "inconsistent and irreconcilable" because both of them defamed one another. The lawyer also claimed that the American actress cannot pay such a hefty amount.

Meanwhile, Depp’s legal team has dismissed the appeal.

The Court’s Verdict In Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Case?

Depp sued Heard over an op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post. Heard claimed to be a survivor of domestic violence in the op-ed but didn’t identify Depp as the abuser. However, Depp claimed it harmed his reputation and wrecked his career. Later on, Heard countersued him for $100 million.

After the trial, the judge ordered Heard to pay $10.35 million to Depp. The judge also ordered Depp to pay Heard $2 million, the jury's award on her counterclaim that she was defamed by one of Depp's lawyers. The jury announced its final verdict on June 1.
