Dubai pledges to end violence against women with its campaign stressing on mental health.

A campaign has been devised by the Dubai Foundation for Women Children that aims at ending violence against them in the United Arab Emirates. This is their sixth campaign aiming at stopping violence against women and also aims at sheding light on the mental health of the women.

This initiative has been taken by the foundation along with global UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign launched by the Secretary-General of the United Nations. This will be 16 day long campaign which will kick off on November 25 that is marked as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and end on Human Rights day celebrated on December 10.

A statement released by the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children reported by WAM said that the campaign will shed light on the neglected and ignored area of mental health of women. The coronavirus pandemic has also to a lot of extent affected the lifestyles of women and shaped their mental health and this campaign will target this area.

Experts believe that this pandemic has brought in an imbalance in the lives of women looking to balance everything in their daily lives and some cases have gone to the extent that their abuses have been inflicted on these women by people around them. This pain doesn’t necessarily mean physical but it can also mean that there is a lot of emotional pressure on these women.

The campaign includes various modules that will teach more about the mental health and violence and it will consist of series of virtual lectures, awareness efforts and podcasts that will be spread through the social media under #Newnormal. The first will also result in the foundation lighting up its building with orange colour that signifies the end of gender-based violence.

Sheikha Al Mansouri who is the acting director general of the foundation asserted the importance and respect of women in the UAE saying that the UAE values the status of women and recognised the importance of their role in building society.

“We launched the sixth campaign to highlight the importance of women's issues, how to deal with them and educate the public on how to support women in their lives. We invite all members of the community to contribute to supporting this campaign by participating in these events and spreading awareness to as many members of the community as possible."
