UAE: Trials for phase lll COVID-19 vaccine begin.

The Abu Dhabi health services has started a new series of clinical trials in the phase III of inactivated vaccine to combat Covid-19 in an attempt to support the efforts and collaboration of the UAE leadership's vision and commitment to fight the battle against corona and overcome the pandemic with combined effort of the world.

The COVID-19 inactivated vaccine, developed by Sinopharm China National Biotec Group Company (CNBG), the trial is being carried out in a cooperation partnership between G42 Healthcare, an Abu Dhabi-based organisation leading the UAE's COVID-19 clinical trial efforts. From the moment people knew that the clinical tests have started and the health department is looking for volunteers, there has been an overwhelming response by the people.

“The diversity of nationalities that call the UAE home, as well as the leading role our leadership plays in tackling the virus in various countries of the world, made the country the perfect place for Phase III of the clinical trials,” Jamal Mohammed Al-Kaabi, acting Undersecretary of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health, said in a statement to WAM. He further added that people from over 20 nationalities have participated in the human trials.

The registration for the volunteers is still open through the website : 4humanity.ae and till now 10,000 volunteers have already registered. Health authorities expect around 5,000 more to register in the coming weeks as the UAE department of Health has permitted upto 15,000 volunteers for the trials.

In an effort to boost up the confidence among people, Abu Dhabi's Chairman of the Department of Health, H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hamed, was reportedly the first recipient of the experimental shot, which was the first human trial of a COVID-19 vaccine using inactivated virus. The Department’s Acting Undersecretary Dr Jamal Al Kaabi is said to have followed him as the second volunteer in the trial.
