Dubai: Emirate well prepared for health tourism promises the DHA.

Dubai opens up for health tourism in the latest development with regard to the emirate as the city witnesses a decrease in a fatality rate of COVID cases to less than 0.6% and recovery rate over 80%.

This is a part of the plan first coined in the year 2014 when Dubai revealed its plans to build 22 hospitals as part of plans to attract 500,000 medical tourists a year and boost its economy by up to Dh2.6 billion by 2020. Dr. Marwan Al Mulla, CEO of Health Regulations at the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), said the emirate is well prepared to provide an unparalleled health tourism experience, even as the world continues to fight Covid-19. The top health official announced on Wednesday that the emirates is ready to welcome back 5,00,000 tourists on a yearly basis as the spread of coronavirus lessens.

In a report of Khaleej Times, the official said, "With over four million PCR tests conducted across the UAE (of which 950,000 were done in Dubai), over 100 field campaigns, 9,000 healthcare professionals who worked around the clock ... we were able to keep our fatality rate at less than 0.6 per cent and our recovery rate over 80 per cent.” He further credited the success of controlling the covid spuege to the coordination between the public and the private health sector and people who were quick enough to adapt to the new normal.

The United Arab Emirates has joined the list of countries which has seen a decrease in the last few weeks and in case of the UAE, it ranged for 900 a day in May to close to 300 per day for this month.

Dubai has now become a medical hub with its ambitious health related projects. In 2018, under the same scheme, the city had about 337,000 medical tourists and this year, despite corona, the numbers are estimated to increase. This success has largely contributed to the ever evolving technological sector of Dubai. In the beginning of this year,  as per Healthworld, Dubai Health Authority introduced the Dubai Health Experience (DXH), a one-stop-shop online portal for medical tourists that bring together doctors, hospitals, hotels, travel agents and airlines under one roof. Patients can consult doctors through the portal, seek a second opinion, get visa information and can even check on deals and offers available in the vibrant city. Through the portal visitors to the city can book their entire medical itineraries online - from doctors’ appointments to hotel bookings. This has heavily impacted the medical tourism in the country.
