Aleix Espargaro Repents For His Mistake In MotoGP
Aleix Espargaro made a serious mistake. Marcel
Schrötter is still waiting for his first podium place in Moto2. Stefan Bradl's
comeback in MotoGP ended on the first lap.
32-year-old Stefan Bradl from Zahling crashed
his Honda in turn ten and retired. Bradl took over the bike from eight-time
world champion Marc Marquez. The Spaniard had to have surgery on his upper arm
for the fourth time last week, which he injured in June 2020.
Bradl has repeatedly stepped in for the
injured ex-world champion in recent years. Marquez will be absent for a long
time after the surgery.
Espargaro Celebrates Too Soon
World championship leader and world champion
Fabio Quartararo from France won the race in Barcelona. His title rival Aleix
Espargaro made a serious mistake.
Thinking the race was already over, the
Spaniard slowed down after the penultimate lap and started waving at the crowd.
By the time he realized his mishap, it was
already too late. Instead of second, he was only fifth in the end. Aleix
Espargaro said,
"I
can't make these mistakes if I want to win the championship. I have to
apologize to my team. That was unacceptable."
However, he remained second in the overall
standings. He is now 22 points behind Quartararo.

Marcel Schrötter still has to wait for his
first podium finish in the Moto2 World Championship season. The 29-year-old
Bavarian from Landsberg finished fifth.
At the finish, he was a little less than a
second behind third place on his Kalex. In the overall standings, Schrötter
remained seventh after the ninth of 20 races with 75 points. The next race will
take place on June 19th at the Sachsenring.
The winner in Barcelona was the Italian
Celestino Vietti. With his third win of the season, he is again the sole leader
in the standings with 133 points, ahead of the Japanese Ai Ogura (117 points)
and the Spaniard Aron Canet (109).
Canet was overtaken by Vietti shortly before
the finish in Barcelona and ended up just 0.081 seconds behind the winner.
