US SecState urges China to deescalate tensions, stay clear of taking any unilateral actions towards Taiwan
On
Sunday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with his Chinese counterpart
Wang Yi in the G2o Summit, urged China to deescalate tensions in the Indo-pacific
region, and refrained from taking unilateral actions towards Taiwan.
Blinken
said at the G20 meeting that China has expanded pressures concerning Taiwan and
that Washington needs to proceed with its "one-China strategy," which
perceives Beijing yet permits informal relations and continues defence tie with
Taipei.
The
top U.S. ambassador told Wang that the U.S. had not changed its "one China"
strategy towards Taiwan.
Blinken
stated that the U.S. goes against activities by China "that oppose our
interests and values... including activities associated with human rights
violations in Xinjiang, Tibet.

The
U.S. had left formal political relations with Taipei in 1979 to recognise
Beijing. The U.S. doesn't straightforwardly challenge China's case to Taiwan;
however, it is bound by law to guarantee that the island can safeguard itself
and regard all intimidations toward it as matters of serious concern.
One
of the main objectives of the United States is to keep an open line of
correspondence with Beijing and schedule a virtual online meeting between
Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden for talks.
A
senior official of the State Department expressed the talks as fair, productive
and effective, saying that Blinken was open about U.S. interests during the
approximately hour-long conference.
The
Chinese Foreign Ministry declaration stated that Wang, while criticising the
United States for a sharp decline in relationships, announced he would want to
build regular communication with Blinken to exchange opinions on handling the
issues between their two nations and avoid biases explore more cooperation in
future.
