UAE sends aid for people in Sudan affected by floods.

The United Arab Emirates has sent help to the Sudanese people by providing them aid yesterday as a part of the Emirates Red Crescent air bridge which comes under the UAE’s humanitarian aid programme.

The aircraft that reached Khartoum to provide aid for the people who are affected by floods in the country carried large quantities of medicines, medical and food supplies and shelter material. UAE advisors from the embassy in Sudan came to receive the aid to the airport and along with him the ERC operation leader in Sudan, Mohammad Salem Al Junaibi was also present to oversee the delivery of the aid to people who are in much need of these resources.

It was revealed by Dr Mohammed Atiq Al Falahi, ERC Secretary-General that the aid was sent to Sudan on the orders of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the follow-up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and ERC Chairman, supports the Sudanese people. Through this aid, it was hoped that some relief would be given to the people who had to be displaced from their land due to floods.

It was further assured by Al Falahi that the Emirati nation is making its best effort to support Sudanese people and help them overcome the aftereffects of the disaster. They are making sure that through workers in Sudan, the adverse effects of the floods especially, on health, environmental and psychological are minimised to the most. ERC delegation ensures that people are met with basic needs and supplies on a daily basis and the impact of flood diminishes as the days go by.

The ERC delegation is working in coordination with the UAE Embassy in Khartoum to strengthen the country’s humanitarian response towards those affected,'' he added.

Hamad Mohammed Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Sudan, said that people of the Emirati nation stand with Sudan in its band times and said that as they have been already supporting Sudan for a long time, it will continue to support the country even further. "This aid provided by the Emirates Red Crescent to the Sudanese people is part of the Emirati humanitarian response to support those affected and ward off the dangers facing them. This is the second shipment of aid by the ERC after the first one that arrived in Khartoum on Tuesday," he added.
