North Korea’s Kim Yo Jong Vs South Korea’s Defense Minister Row Over Missiles Launch
Kim Yo Jong, the sister of the North Korean leader Kim Jong
Un, said on Sunday, “South Korea may face a serious threat.” She indirectly
slammed South Korean Defense Minister Suh Wook for his recent comments on North
Korea launching missiles toward South Korea.
Kim Yo Jong is a leading voice in inter-Korean relations.
According to North Korea’s state media, she said in a reported statement, “The
senseless and scum-like guy dare mentioned the ‘preemptive strike’ at a nuclear
weapons state, it will never be beneficial to South Korea, either.”
She referred to Suh Wook as the “guy” in her statement. Wook recently said that South Korea will take a ‘preemptive strike’ against North Korea if there is any indication of the North launching missiles toward South Korea.
North Korea threatens to use nuclear weapons to ‘eliminate’ South Korean army if it launches a pre-emptive strike. But Kim Yo Jong, Kim Jong Un's sister also says "South Korea is not our principal enemy"..."we oppose war" https://t.co/dopQ7UfxFu

Kim Yo Jong said that Wook’s comments have further worsened
inter-Korean relations. She said that the North has no intention to start a
second Korean war, but if provoked, the South will suffer. She further said
that if an armed conflict breaks out, nuclear weapons will be used to
“eliminate the enemy's armed forces at a strike”.
Wook and Kim's comments come against the backdrop of North
Korea launching a series of ballistic missile tests toward South Korea. North
Korea reported on March 25 that it successfully tested its new Hwasong-17 ICBM
(Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) system on March 24. However, South Korea
and the United States (US) said that it was the Hwasong-15, not the newer
Hwasong-17.
On March 16, an unknown ballistic missile launched by North
Korea exploded in mid-air. North Korea has been speeding up its testing
activity in 2022. The country aggressively expanded its military capabilities
despite limited resources. North Korea tested long-range cruise missiles and
short-range ballistic missiles as a part of a record-breaking streak of
launches this year.
