Malaysia urges ASEAN to rethink about is decision to not interfere in affairs of its member states
ASEAN has always maintained its no interference policy for its member states but Malaysia this urges the organization to make an exception and interfere in the internal matters of Myanmar which is experiencing total exploitation of human rights under the leadership of the military.
The Association of SouthEast Asian
Nations must act on Myanmar's situation and rethink its decades long
non-interference in the affairs of its member states as there are many
incidences of human rights crisis in the nation urged the top Malaysian Foriegn
Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.
The leader of Myanmar junta was excluded
from an upcoming regional submit, which is one of its king moves for the
organisation. Instead of the military leader, a non-political figure will be
invited to take the matters forward.

The decision was taken on Friday by a
10-member block citing the various violations taking place in Myanmar.
Following this, the Foreign MInister of Malaysia also said that ASEAN should do
some ‘soul searching’ on its non-interference policy as things are continually
worsening in Myanmar.
While participating in the meeting
through a virtual call, the top diplomat said, “I reminded the meeting (on
Friday) that ASEAN is about 10 member states.
As much as the issue in Myanmar is local
and national, it has an impact on the region.” He also added that this is also
in line with the security of other nine states.
