New heart hospital in Bahrain funded by Abu Dhabi opens, doctors hope more patients from Gulf

A heart treatment healthcare centre sundered by the United Arab Emirates opened in Bahrain on Monday. The doctors at the hospital, which is called  the Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Cardiac Specialist Centre, are hoping that more patients from the gulf region.

The centre will reportedly have 148 beds which more than double the number that was there in the previous clinic. The clinic earlier had only 60 beds. More beds will make more space for patients and also cater to emergency services. As per reports child and adult patients will be treated in a specialist clinic in the same hospital, which will also have surgical and cardiac facilities.

The centre also has a capacity of 14 outpatients which is more than what the hospital had earlier. Dr Leena Al Sulaibeekh, a consultant cardiologist, said “We are proud to have this centre that will be one of the largest in the Middle East.” She also said that it will be a completely intelligent hospital and will use technology for most of its services.

The hospital built near Manama received Dh735 million from Abu Dhabi for the purpose of development and it will shortly be opening once its computer systems are operational for the public use. Sulaibeekh also said that the hospital houses a big radiology department which has the best scanners along with 3D echo-scanning machines.

The old hospital had only one operating room but the new building has two advanced hospital rooms and there is an additional hybrid operating room in the new building, confirmed the cardiologist. She said that these technologies will allow the specialists to have surgery and cardiac catheterization at the same time, an act that is not known a lot.

It is not only one project that the government of Abu Dhabi is financing for Bahrain but there are several other projects underway which are being carried out in co-operation with Bahrain’s government to stimulate growth in the gulf country.

Bahrain was one of the first beneficiaries of the Abu Dhabi Finds Development program that started in 1974. Since then, the aid agency has sponsored projects in Bahrain. The total funding that the nation received from the agency is about Dh19.5 billion which have been used to support 29 projects. These developmental projects are spread over different sectors such as health, water transport and housing.

The new structure has been built in an area of 53,000 square metres and it is a mark of the strategic development partnership between the two nations.
